It's not about the destination, it's the journey

I hail from the land of horned toads, harsh land, cowboy hats, and hurried wildcatters: West Texas (USA). If you have seen the movies No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood, well, that’s it. I am 24 years old and I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (hook’em!) in May 2007 with dual degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering, during which time I completed internships in investment banking (JPMorgan) and government policy (Center for American Progress). After graduating I worked as a nuclear engineer (Iberdrola) in Madrid for almost a year, where I found out about the program from the wonderful people who work in the IMIM office. My main interest is in energy development, which stems from an accumulation of my past internship and work experiences, and the IMIM program offers a unique learning experience that I feel will provide me with the skills required to succeed in my chosen field of interest, and wherever it might lead me.

Profile book

Ok guys and girls I think the time to start to introduce ourselves is arrived.  Let’s introduce us, our background, how we got information about IMIM and why we decided to join this master.

My name is Luca. I am from Udine (Italy), I'm 22 and I graduated from Politecnico di Milano (Milano, Italy) last July. My bachelor at Politecnico di Milano was management engineering, I did not have any working experience nor I made any internships.

I got the information of the International Master in Industrial Management (IMIM) from my university being one of the three leading university that organized this master. In fact I was selected by Polimi in June and so I didn’t participate at the bid as my colleagues from outside Italy did. So the information I’m providing you could be more useful for those from Polimi that would participate next year in the selection process, due to the peculiarity with which Italian, Spanish and Swedish people are selected. In particular, the Italian coordinator is prof. Donatella Corti which will collect all your CV, motivation letter, average of the grade of your bachelor, TOEFL certificate and additional documents, if any. You can contact her for additional information about the selection process and the deadlines for the next edition (I think will be at the end of June, but I’m not sure).

I decided to join this master first of all because I wanted an international experience. I really think that nowadays a manager needs this kind of experience not only for their academic content, but also for the networks you create with people around the world and because you’ll live in an international environment which is more likely the one we will face in a few years time.

There are lots of others motivations both personal and general, but the purpose of this short introduction is just for you to know who are your previous colleagues, which are their backgrounds etc in order to establish if you have all the credentials to be one of the fortunate who will live and study the IMIM.

Good luck for the selection process!!!

This is what we call balanced education :-)

The Motion of the Ocean

The financial accounting after party. We had an exam earlier in the day, but we still had that antsy accounting exam feeling, a feeling that can only be described as somewhere between the feeling you have when you have finally finished potty training and the feeling you have when you first have to use the big bowl. So needless to say, we deemed it an occasion to celebrate. Celebrate by accounting how many rounds would be required to make ourselves look completely silly.  The above picture shows the crowning of the new IMIM Accounting Queen...All hail Queen EBITDAla...Stay tuned for the crowning of King Cost of Capital after the corporate finance exam.

So we had an Indian dinner on saturday night at Jairos place which was amazing. I dont have the photographs now but will soon post them on the blog. " Papa Jairo" as we call him with love is from colombia. Soon we will have a post from him. So the chefs were Chirag and Rishi of course with some assistance from us. Menu of the day Sweet corn vegetable salad especially for those who cant take the indian spices, Arroz (rice in spanish) with chicken two varieties of them one with lesser spice again and some fried pork. The dinner was great just like anyother we had in the past where we all had some good fun. Not to forget about the drinks. Cem brought the Abslout vodka the one from the presentation and Mario brought some good wine. And we all finished the dinner with a wonderful Ice creame cake from milo, rodrigo and tammy. Introduction to IMIM

This is the 2008 IMIM class with the faculty.

Hi every one I am a student of IMIM 2008-2010 batch. Recenlty I was getting a lot of queries on how to get in to IMIM what are its requirements, will I be eligible or not and other stuff so I thought I will post some of the details in the blog and I will be putting the profile of each student a week and will also ask my friends to do guest posts to you guys. So all of you who are interested can ask questions and put comments. I also would like to document our IMIM experiances with this blog so I will be updating all the fun that we had here and some videos. This is the trailer video that we made in the beginning.

d

I will not describe much about the course as you all might have already visited the website http://www.imim.polimi.it/home.html.

So as you can see from the photo above which is taken at UPM madrid on our first day. Totally there are people from 21 different countries in the course today. This is what we call a global course with people from all around the world come  meet and learn. This is a wonderful experiance for all of us here. Most of the learning we have here is from the peers about their cultures, practises and governments. These are the things which are most important for a future manager in a globalised world.
