Listos para MILAN

Hi everyone I'm one of the students from the 5th IMIM edition, a little about me, My name is Alfredo Casados, I'm from Mexico, I did my B.S. in computer science, graduated from Tecnologico de Monterrey, it had been already 6 months since we had our first class at UPM, now we are ready to leave España and go to Italia, for the spring term. The semester here in Madrid was awesome, in every aspect I can think about it, the city is just great, it can offer almost everything for anybody, from culture to extreme partying.

The quality of the topics and of the professors is really good, this first semester was into a management point of view and they it was covered was awesome, this batch have different engineering backgrounds some of us didn't have any topics related in college of in working experience with the topics covered in this semester, but the program is so good that now we are familiar with concepts about accounting and finance that in my opinion are some how difficult to get if your B.S. is in engineering.

For the Latin applicants you will find a little piece of your countries here (also indians and Chinese people), but specially latinos, for other cultures it will be a great opportunity to know in the first stop Spain, the country has too much to offer in the trips along the semester(some are organized by the school, the rest we did it), every city is unique and special, I personally expended time in the north, in Galicia and Asturias, is an amazing part of Spain "greener" as you may notice once you arrive to Madrid that is dry, one constant in every city, is the people, spaniards are welcoming people and very open to meet foreigners.

In general I don't think anyone from the current batch can complain about Spain, the party time was great, the studying time was hard but all was and is worthy.

I hope you guys enjoy Spain, as much as we did

Cheers!

I didn't know that there were so many latinos in the IMIM program, that's really nice! If you have time, tell us more about the class composition...

Hey Alfredo,
If you have time, please write something about the cost of life in Madrid. I was just wondering, how much does it cost monthly to live there. Im going with my wife and have to consider an extra budget, but have no clue about an average expense.
Thanks in advance,

Hey niko, long time, so I guess u already have the results, if that so, Congrats dude, about the expenses, the main expense is the apartment, everything is "cheaper" or expensive after paying for the apartment, I was paying around 400€ monthly for mine, water, energy , gas and internet already include, so I had spare 500€, so for eating it depends I used to expend 20€ per week doing groceries, so monthly it can be around 150€ for two, them, if rent far from university u need to buy every month the Metro abono, that is 50€ per month, so u can take the metro or the bus as many times u need in that month, is the cheaper option, so u have 300€ left from the scholarship, so cuz u are going to be with ur wife here, I think the normal monthly expenses is going to be around 800€, considering going out in the city and stuff like that, this my best estimation, but since a friend in the master is also whit his wife, let me ask him how much did he expended monthly in madrid for both of them

Hola Alfredo,
Thanks again for the complete answer! Iam in the main list, however, I havent the official result so far. I am freaking out...hehe!
By 400€/month you rent your own "piso" in Madrid or just a room? I mean, with all those facilities included it is not that expensive!
Just one more favor: correct me if I am wrong...I imagine the 4th semester in terms of a Master internship program that serves as a recruitment source for possible department employment opportunities...and some of the students do get a job in these companies. Could you please give us a better idea about the last semester? (there is not much about it on the IMIM HP)...
Thanks again, man...

It was for my room, I used to share the flat with friend back from mexico, to get a decent flat just for one, is a hard task as will see, my best advise, if you can't get a flat for one, look for a flat with two rooms, in many cases that will be cheaper that a single room flat, if you begin to get in touch with the accommodation office maybe they can find for you since now a suitable flat.

4th semester, is about getting your internship in a EU country, in order to make your thesis, by the time ur in sweden u should know or have an idea of which company u want to try to get the internship, so the people on KTH, polimi or UPM can help you to get the interview, actually we are encourage to make our minds a little before so we don't have any problem, getting the proper visas for the last semester, this is very important some people got amazing internship opportunities but they couldn't got the visa in time, thus the miss the good chance

Hi Alfred,

I am Andrei from the Philippines. I got in the main list of another Erasmus program (IMMIT) but was in the reserve list for IMIM. I was told my rank in the reserve was upgraded from 3rd to 1st as two students dropped out. I have lots of queries regarding the program, hope you can email me at andrei_martin@yahoo.com :)

cheers,

Hola Alfredo,
I'm plenty of questions about taking my wife to this journey (VISA documentation, work permit, spare time, etc) ...could you please ask your friend again to send me an e-mail?!?!?! By the way, is there only one married guy in the 2008-10 batch?
I'm sorry if I'm getting too annoying!
Un abrazo,
